Hello , Could someone tell me what happened to the above church and scnool and the parish records . I wanted to check some baptisms. Hi

Most of the Baptisms and Marriages on LDS are for the Cathedral, Manchester.

If I am not mistaken most Catholic Records are with the Churches, and are only just being digitilised (Spelling).

Is this St Josephs now or was St.Josephs there at the same time.

I will see if I can find anything, but it’s looking rather slim

Debbie

Have you tried St John’s Cathedral on Chapel st.I am sure many records are held there for the Salford Area.

Hi
Don’t know if this is any help, but I have copy certificates for two marriages at Mount Carmel in 1882 & 1890. I ordered them in 1989 after making enquiries at St John’s Cathedral on Chapel St, about my Breheny ancestors, who lived in the Ordsall area. This was very early days for family research and they may not have time now to cope with all enquiries, but it could be worth a try.
St Joseph’s may also be able to help you, though if I remember rightly, they refered me to the Cathedral.
Mount Carmel church stood at the junction of Oldfield Rd & Ordsall Lane.

Regards

Dorothy

Postscript

Go to www.churches-online.org.uk/salford archives to find information on catholic parish registers. It looks as though St Joseph’s may be the holder of Mount Carmel records.

Good luck with your search

Hello tjhobson.

My great-grandparents were married at Mount Carmel on the 3rd November 1884. As to its existence, I referred to Google’s Street View recently where it would appear the church has been replaced by housing (well there’s a surprise). There’s a photograph of the church online, which was taken in 1959. Go to Google Images, then type in Mount Carmel Church, Oldfield Road Salford. Sincere regards, Gary

Hi,

I can answer that one (altho I’m not Rocker!)

You would need to visit Preston RO, as the records are not on-line, or get someone to check them for you. Only the years etc stated above would be available there, so the 1884 marriage you mentioned would not be there.
